MVP Moisture Barrier Cream: Advanced Epoxy Solution for Concrete Protection

V-8 Rev M.V.P. is an industrial-strength, fast-drying, two-part, 100% solids epoxy product designed for moisture vapor protection. It is specifically formulated to mitigate and safeguard against moisture vapor that can develop in both new and aged concrete during the mixing process.

A significant advantage of using Rev M.V.P. is its ability to eliminate the traditional 28-day concrete curing period before the application of subsequent flooring materials. This means that epoxy, hybrid coatings, carpet, VCT (Vinyl Composition Tile), tile, or hardwood can be installed much sooner. Rev M.V.P. can be applied as early as 24 hours after the concrete has been poured.

This versatile product can function effectively either as a primer coat or as a standalone protective layer, offering flexibility in application.

Surface Preparation for Rev M.V.P.

Proper surface preparation is crucial for the optimal performance of Rev M.V.P.. The concrete surface must be mechanically prepared using shot-blasting to achieve an ICRI (International Concrete Repair Institute) Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) of 3. Acid etching is not recommended. In areas where shot-blasting is not feasible, grinding can be employed.

Before applying the Rev M.V.P. Clear Formula, the area must be thoroughly cleaned of all dust, dirt, and debris. It is important to avoid using sweeping compounds, as they often contain oils that can compromise the adhesion of the epoxy coating, leading to potential bonding issues.

Advantages of Using Rev M.V.P.

The implementation of Rev M.V.P. offers several key benefits for concrete moisture vapor protection:

  • Early Application: Allows for coating application as little as 24 hours after the concrete has been poured, significantly reducing project timelines.
  • Moisture Vapor Emission Rate Reduction: Effectively reduces a moisture vapor emission rate from 20 pounds to under 4 pounds, creating a stable substrate for flooring.
  • Pigment Compatibility: The product can be pigmented, offering aesthetic options if used as a standalone wear layer.
  • Versatile Primer: Can be utilized as primer coats for various flooring systems.
  • Broadcast Application: Suitable for broadcasting aggregates into the wet epoxy, enhancing its properties.
  • VOC Compliance: Meets Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) standards, contributing to healthier indoor air quality.

Coverage Rates for Rev M.V.P. as a Moisture Vapor Protection Primer

The coverage rate of Rev M.V.P. when used as a moisture vapor protection primer varies depending on the moisture reading of the concrete:

Moisture Reading Coverage Rate (sq. ft./gal.)
12 lbs or below 150 sq. ft./gal.
12-18 lbs 120 sq. ft./gal.
(Data for higher moisture readings incomplete in source text) 100 sq. ft./gal. (implied for higher readings)
