Understanding Dermatology and Clinic Services
What is Dermatology?
Dermatology is the specialized branch of medicine dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails. At The Dermatology Clinic, P.A., we offer an extensive array of services designed to address both health-related and cosmetic skin concerns.
Medical Dermatology Services
Our medical dermatology services include the evaluation and management of common and complex skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, skin infections, and suspicious moles that may indicate cancer. We also address dermatitis related to allergies or irritants.
Surgical Dermatology
Surgical dermatology encompasses procedures aimed at the safe and effective removal of skin cancers, cysts, and other lesions. This includes Mohs surgery for skin cancer, offering high cure rates and excellent cosmetic results.
Cosmetic Dermatology
Cosmetic dermatology focuses on treatments that enhance appearance, including injectables, skin resurfacing techniques, and laser treatments for various concerns in Wichita, KS. These services are tailored to individual aesthetic goals.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Skin Conditions
Our dermatologists in Wichita, KS, diagnose skin conditions through a combination of a thorough examination and a review of your medical history. When necessary, additional testing is employed.
Diagnostic Methods
During an evaluation, we visually inspect the skin, hair, and nails. Diagnostic tools such as dermoscopy may be used to magnify and analyze suspicious lesions. For conditions requiring confirmation, a small biopsy or laboratory test can be performed in the clinic’s pathology lab, allowing specialists to examine tissue samples under a microscope.
Treatment Planning
Once a diagnosis is confirmed, treatment plans are customized to your specific needs. These may include topical or oral medications, specialized light or laser treatments, lifestyle and skincare recommendations, or surgical removal of lesions. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for preventing conditions from worsening, reducing symptoms, and improving overall skin health.

Your First Visit to Our Dermatology Clinic
Your initial visit to our dermatology clinic typically begins with a comprehensive review of your medical history and a discussion of your concerns. You will likely be asked about symptom onset, previous treatments, allergies, medications, and any family history of skin conditions.
Comprehensive Examination
Our dermatologists in Wichita, KS, will then conduct a detailed examination of your skin, hair, and nails, looking for any signs of disease or irregularities. Depending on your specific issue, additional tests such as biopsies, laboratory work, or imaging may be recommended.
Patient Communication
Please be prepared to discuss your lifestyle, sun exposure habits, skincare routine, and any recent changes to your skin. After the evaluation, your dermatologist will clearly explain the diagnosis, outline available treatment options, discuss expected outcomes, and detail the follow-up care plan. We encourage open communication to ensure you feel confident and well-informed about your care plan.
Common Medical Dermatology Conditions
Dermatologists treat a wide spectrum of medical skin conditions, ranging from mild to chronic or serious. Some of the most frequently managed conditions include:
- Acne: Often requiring topical or systemic therapy.
- Eczema and Dermatitis: Characterized by inflammation and itchiness.
- Psoriasis: Presents with thick, scaly patches of skin.
- Rosacea: Can cause persistent redness and visible blood vessels, particularly on the face.
- Skin Infections: Such as bacterial, fungal, or viral infections, typically requiring targeted antimicrobial treatments.
- Hair and Nail Conditions: Including hair loss or fungal nail infections.
Our dermatologists in Wichita, KS, also provide screening and treatment for precancerous changes and administer procedures for confirmed skin cancers. Early intervention is key to improving outcomes and preventing complications.

Cosmetic Dermatology vs. Medical Dermatology
Cosmetic dermatology is distinct from medical dermatology in its primary goal: enhancing or improving the appearance of the skin, rather than treating disease and dysfunction. Cosmetic procedures aim to reduce visible signs of aging, improve skin texture, and enhance facial features.
Available Cosmetic Treatments
Typical cosmetic treatments include laser spot removal in Wichita, KS, and injectables such as Botox or fillers used to soften wrinkles and restore volume. Other options may address concerns like stretch marks, vascular lesions (e.g., spider veins), and pigmented spots. These services are personalized to individual aesthetic goals and are often accompanied by consultations to discuss realistic expectations, recovery time, and maintenance strategies. While cosmetic in nature, these treatments are performed by trained dermatologists in Wichita, KS, to ensure both safety and effectiveness.
