Evan Healy Rose Cleansing Milk: Ingredients and Benefits

My most recent skincare discoveries, that have me completely over-the-moon, are the mind-blowingly gentle and effective products from evanhealy. I first began discussing evanhealy after receiving my facial from Joan Shure at the Pharmaca Friends & Family Event at the Pacific Palisades location last month. I have since been trying out a handful of evanhealy products, and am thrilled by the quality and efficacy of the line.

Evan Healy is an artisan-quality skin care treatment line created by aesthetician Evan Healy. Her holistic approach draws from traditional plant lore, aromatherapy, ayurveda, and homeopathy. Through her experience with holistic therapies, Evan has observed the connection between plants and skin. Rather than treating areas of imbalance such as an overly oily condition, the more holistic, successful, and long-term solution is to support the totality of skin functions using simple plant-based formulations and non-invasive treatment methods.

Evan Healy Rose Cleansing Milk: A Gentle Yet Powerful Cleanser

Evan Healy Rose Cleansing Milk is a delectably earthy rose-scented cleanser that does a remarkable job thoroughly cleansing the skin, and does so without leaving behind any greasy film or residue. If you have been put off by cleansers that don't produce a heady foam and have generally felt the need to double cleanse to remove the vestiges of lotion/cream cleansers, then you will be pleasantly surprised by evanhealy Rose Cleansing Milk. In fact, skin is left petal soft, balanced, and toned while simultaneously perfectly cleansed, and never stripped.

While it boasts a gentle formula, it is a mighty powerhouse in its ability to effectively draw out impurities and clean out clogged pores. My skin looks luminous and refined every time that I use this lovely cleanser, and the effects are so marked that I have been using Rose Cleansing Milk daily since receiving it.

Rose Cleansing Milk pairs the creaminess of a plant-milk with the lightly lathering action of natural yucca root, creating a nourishing, effective, and deep cleansing product. This skin-balancing formula effectively draws impurities out of tiny dermal pores, leaving skin exquisitely clean. Daily use softens and loosens the hardened waxy deposits that are blackheads.

Our gentle Cleansing Milks are made from nourishing plant oils and antioxidant-rich floral hydrosols. Together, they create a holistic cleansing action that effectively draws impurities out of tiny dermal pores, softening and loosening hardened waxy deposits (blackheads).

Understanding the Ingredients and Their Benefits

As we age, natural oil production begins to slow. The purpose of a cleanser is to effectively remove impurities without stripping the skin of its natural oils.

Key Ingredients and Their Functions:

  • Water: The most common cosmetic ingredient, essential for life and a base for many formulations.
  • Kaolin: A type of clay used for oil control and to help minimize pores. It absorbs excess sebum and can help clean out pores and mattify the skin. Some types may have exfoliating properties.
  • Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice: Derived from the aloe plant, it is known for soothing sunburns, and is anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, antiseptic, and aids in wound healing. It is rich in vitamins A, C, and E (antioxidants) and contains sugars, folic acid, and choline.
  • Decyl Glucoside: A glucose-based surfactant and emulsion stabilizer created from glucose and plant fatty acids. It cleans the skin by trapping oil, sebum, and dirt for easy removal. It is biodegradable, non-toxic, and commonly found in baby shampoos.
  • Cocos Nucifera Oil (Coconut Oil): Rich in fatty acids like lauric and linoleic acid, it helps trap moisture and soften skin. While it has antibacterial properties, it may not be suitable for acne-prone skin as it can be comedogenic and clog pores. It offers minimal UV protection (about 20%).
  • Fragrance: The term is not regulated and can refer to synthetic or natural scents. Brands may label products "fragrance-free" if they exclude synthetic fragrances.
  • Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter): An effective skin hydrator and emollient that soothes and softens skin by creating a protective film that traps moisture. It is rich in antioxidants and fatty acids like stearic and linoleic acid, which replenish and moisturize the skin. It offers a low SPF (about 3-4) and is not a sunscreen replacement.
  • Emulsifiers: Help stabilize products by preventing ingredients like oils and water from separating.
  • Surfactants: Reduce surface tension, making it easier to rinse pollutants off the skin.
  • Glycerin: Naturally found in the skin, it moisturizes and protects by attracting moisture (humectant). It helps improve the skin barrier and has antimicrobial and antiviral properties. Typically derived from plants, it is organic, colorless, odorless, and non-toxic.
  • SSL: Typically used as a surfactant and emulsifier to stabilize water-based formulas and improve texture.
  • Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil (Sunflower Seed Oil): A non-fragrant emollient that softens the skin. Its fatty acids help the skin create ceramides, which repair the skin barrier. Rich in vitamin E, it moisturizes and rejuvenates the skin.
  • Lonicera Caprifolium Flower Extract (Honeysuckle Flower Extract): An antioxidant, antimicrobial, and fragrance. It contains a natural paraben that provides antimicrobial properties, effective against bacteria, yeast, and mold.
  • Olea Europaea Fruit Oil (Olive Oil): Contains fatty acids (linoleic, oleic, palmitic) and antioxidants like Vitamin E, which help fight free-radicals and signs of aging. It also contains vitamins A, D, and K. Squalene in olive oil acts as an emollient, trapping moisture for hydration. It may have antibacterial and antifungal properties but can irritate sensitive, oily skin.
  • Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract: Derived from the marigold plant, it is a skin conditioner rich in flavonoids that possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Xanthan Gum: Used as a stabilizer and thickener in cosmetic products to create a desirable consistency. It is a polysaccharide.
  • Centella Asiatica Extract (Centella): An herb known for its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. It helps with soothing, hydrating, and protecting the skin. It contains vitamins A, C, several B vitamins, and Asiatic Acid.
  • Aesculus Hippocastanum Extract: Derived from horse chestnut, it is an antioxidant that helps soothe the skin by fighting free-radicals.
  • Pelargonium Graveolens Oil (Rose Geranium Oil): Used for perfuming and masking properties. It contains citronellol and geraniol, which may cause allergies and skin sensitivity.
  • Lavandula Angustifolia Oil (Lavender Essential Oil): Primarily a fragrancing ingredient. While it has a pleasant scent and some antimicrobial, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties, it may sensitize the skin. Certain compounds in lavender oil can become strong allergens when exposed to air and have shown cytotoxicity at low concentrations.
  • Tocopherol (Vitamin E): A common antioxidant that protects the skin from free-radicals, strengthens the skin barrier, and keeps natural skin lipids healthy. It offers some UV protection and works synergistically with Vitamin C to enhance effectiveness.
