The beauty world is buzzing with the exciting collaboration between two beloved brands: Glossier and Starface. This partnership merges Glossier's skin-first philosophy with Starface's mission to destigmatize acne through its vibrant hydrocolloid patches, known as Hydro-Stars.
According to Kleo Mack, Glossier's chief marketing officer, the synergy between the two brands is evident. "Glossier and Starface have so much in common," she stated. "We both have curated sets of everyday essentials that are intended to bring joy and ease to your beauty routine."
The genesis of this collaboration can be traced back to Glossier's early days. When Emily Weiss launched the brand in 2014, each order included a sticker sheet. "The goal was to bring some joy and fun to beauty and make the unboxing experience exciting," Mack explained. The Hydro-Stars in this collaboration pay homage to those original sticker sheets, featuring light pink stars, cherries, and the iconic three-eyed smiley face.

Kara Brothers, president of Starface, emphasized the brand's core objective: "The goal of Starface has always been to 'infuse optimism into the acne category.'" This sentiment is echoed by the brand's success, with celebrities like Justin Bieber, Emma Stone, and Florence Pugh having been seen sporting the Hydro-Stars. Starface has also engaged in notable collaborations with icons such as Hello Kitty and created special patches for fashion events like the spring 2023 Puppets & Puppets show.
"Starface’s products are efficacious and beautiful," Mack added. "Rather than covering or concealing, they turn spots and breakouts into something fun and joyful."
The Limited-Edition Collection
The highly anticipated collaboration is now available for purchase. The collection features a special Glossier x Starface Compact, a light pink mirrored case filled with 32 hydrocolloid star patches. A refill set is also available to replenish your supply.

Each patch is infused with Starface's signature hydrocolloid formula, which works to absorb fluid, reduce inflammation, and protect the skin from bacteria. This collaboration introduces new, playful shapes for the patches, including cherries and smiley faces, serving as a nostalgic nod to Glossier’s original sticker sheets.
The press release highlights the shared values of both brands: "Both Glossier and Starface share a deep commitment to embracing confidence, celebrating self-expression and individuality, and finding joy in everyday moments."
The Evolution of Pimple Patches
Pimple patches have undergone a significant transformation, evolving from a discreet necessity to a statement beauty item. Historically, hydrocolloid stickers were the primary option, known for their gentle spot-treating capabilities without resorting to aggressive methods or toothpaste. They aimed to prevent users from picking at blemishes.
However, the landscape of skincare innovation has introduced more advanced solutions. While traditional hydrocolloid patches are effective for whiteheads, their efficacy against cystic acne has been questioned.
Advanced Formulations
Brands like ZitSticka have introduced patches with micro-darts that deliver active ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, peptide OG-76, and salicylic acid, directly into cystic blemishes. These are presented as a less invasive, lower-risk alternative to cortisone shots for treating deeper acne.
Similarly, Peace Out Dark Spots utilizes a similar micro-dart technology, but focuses on treating hyperpigmentation rather than active acne. These patches have shown visible results in fading post-acne marks.
For everyday blemishes, Rael Acne Healing Patches offer a tapered design that makes them more discreet and suitable for wear in public or at work.

Pimple Patches as a Fashion Statement
The perception of pimple patches has shifted dramatically, largely due to brands like Starface. Since its inception in 2019, Starface has been instrumental in making acne treatments fun and fashionable. Their use of vibrant colors, seasonal shapes, and collaborations with popular characters like Hello Kitty has normalized the visibility of breakouts.
Celebrities such as Nicola Peltz Beckham and Rose from BLACKPINK have openly shared their use of pimple patches, further contributing to the trend of showcasing rather than hiding acne. This shift reflects a broader cultural movement towards embracing imperfections and celebrating self-expression.
The Glossier x Starface collaboration, launched on December 4, 2023, with a wider release on February 20, 2024, exemplifies this evolution. The collection features seven highly requested, nostalgic designs inspired by Glossier’s original sticker sheets, all made with 100% hydrocolloid.
Starface teased the collaboration on Instagram with the caption, "I think pink is my color," which led fans to correctly guess the partnership in the comments. The limited-edition collection, priced at $19 for the compact and $15 for the refill pack, is a testament to the brands' shared vision of turning a common skin concern into an opportunity for creativity and self-care.
As Starface shared in a press release, "With this collaboration, the two cult-favorite skincare brands came together to reimagine Glossier’s iconic sticker sheets as pimple patches with Starface’s award-winning hydrocolloid formula. These playful and nostalgic patches are designed to add a little fun to your routine."
