Ken Rash's Arkansas: A Legacy of Casual Furnishings in Little Rock

Ken Rash founded his namesake casual furnishings business in Memphis in 1970. His daughter, Lawrie, followed in his footsteps and started working in the store at the eager age of 14. In 1991, Lawrie’s father provided her with the exciting opportunity to open a store in Little Rock. Lawrie has showcased both her store and her talent by participating in every Symphony Designer House and Build for the Cure Idea House since the store opened.

Community and Business Transitions

The old Ken Rash’s Outdoor Furniture building in Little Rock has been sitting vacant for a while, but will soon take on a new life when CMW Marketing + Creative moves into the space. CMW chairman emeritus Frank Cox told AMP, “It’s a big deal for us. We like the location.” Cox said the building, located at 7214 Cantrell Road, is in the process of being renovated. The team plans to move there sometime in January. Currently, CMW is located at 3700 Kavanaugh Boulevard.

CMW President and CEO Frank Holmes Cox III took to social media to say the following about the move: "Cities don’t thrive by walking away from their landmarks - they thrive by investing in them. This building carries the history, identity, and presence that no cheaply-built, dryvit-clad replacement across town could ever match. Instead of leaving it behind, we have an opportunity to beautify Upper Cantrell. I would love to see our fellow investors in Little Rock commit to strengthening what already exists and ensuring that the property in our city remains a point of pride rather than a symbol of abandonment."
