Common Skin Conditions We Treat

Our expertise extends to a variety of common and complex skin conditions. Below is a brief overview of some of the issues we frequently address:

Acne

Acne is the most frequent skin condition encountered by medical professionals. It manifests as pimples on the face, back, and chest. Approximately 80% of adolescents experience some form of acne, and about 5% of adults are also affected. In healthy skin, sebaceous glands produce sebum, an oily substance. Acne occurs when these glands become clogged or inflamed.

Moles

Moles are typically brown or black growths, usually round or oval, that can appear anywhere on the skin. They can vary in texture and size, though most are less than one-quarter inch in diameter. Moles form when melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin pigmentation, grow in clusters. While most moles appear by age 20, some may develop later in life.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition characterized by red patches covered with white, flaky scales. It commonly affects the elbows, knees, and trunk but can appear anywhere. The first onset typically occurs between ages 15 and 35, and the condition cycles through flare-ups and remissions throughout a patient's life. Psoriasis affects millions in the United States, including a notable number of children.

Rashes

"Rash" is a broad term encompassing various skin conditions that cause changes like red patches, small bumps, or blisters. While many rashes are harmless and treatable with over-the-counter remedies, professional diagnosis is sometimes necessary.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition primarily affecting the face. It causes facial redness, acne-like pimples, visible small blood vessels, swelling, and sometimes eye irritation. Rosacea affects millions of Americans, is not contagious, and while its cause is unknown, it is not linked to cancer.

Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is the most common form of human cancer. While generally curable if detected early, individuals with a history of skin cancer are at higher risk for developing new ones. Regular self-examinations and professional check-ups are crucial for early detection and prevention.

Warts

Warts are small, harmless growths caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). They commonly appear on the hands and feet and can have varied appearances. Warts are benign and generally painless, though they can spread from person to person or to other parts of the body.

Wrinkles

Wrinkles are a natural part of aging, occurring most often in sun-exposed areas like the face and hands. As skin thins, dries, and loses elasticity over time, fine lines and deep furrows can form. Factors like sun exposure, smoking, heredity, and skin type can influence their premature development.
