Your First Visit
Your initial visit to Associates in Dermatology includes several steps designed to help the team get to know you better. To prepare for your appointment, please review the information provided on this page.
Accessibility and Convenience
To ensure your convenience, Associates in Dermatology operates across 14 locations. Effective October 1, 2024, the practice will require all patients to provide a credit/debit card at check-in, which will be stored on file for future transactions.

Communication and Scheduling
Klara facilitates efficient communication via text messaging with receptionists and allows patients to self-schedule appointments. For those who prefer traditional methods, calling the office remains an option.
Advanced Dermatologic Care
Associates in Dermatology prides itself on offering the most advanced dermatologic care available. Medical dermatology encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory, infectious, and neoplastic processes using numerous modalities. This advanced approach involves the microscopic evaluation of the entire edge of a tumor, a significant improvement over traditional methods that can only visualize a small percentage of the tumor’s edge. This ensures accurate diagnosis for skin cancer and complex dermatologic diseases.

On-Site Dermatopathology Lab
Understanding that long waits for biopsy results can cause significant anxiety, Associates in Dermatology features an on-site dermatopathology lab. This facility ensures rapid reporting of biopsy results, thereby shortening the waiting period for patients.
Hospital Consultative Services
The office provides 24/7 consultative services to numerous hospitals in the region.
Contact Dermatitis: Diagnosis and Treatment
What is Contact Dermatitis?
Contact dermatitis is a rash that develops when your skin comes into contact with a substance that triggers an immune response. This reaction can occur even with substances that have been used safely for years. Diagnosing contact dermatitis can be challenging, as it may coexist with or appear identical to other forms of eczema.
Diagnosing Contact Dermatitis
Contact dermatitis should be considered in new cases of eczema, in changes to chronic eczema cases (such as alterations in location, severity, or appearance), and whenever eczema does not respond to treatment. It can be particularly difficult to identify contact dermatitis in individuals with atopic dermatitis.
Patch Testing
Patch testing is a diagnostic procedure where potential allergens are applied to your back for two days and then removed. Following removal, your back is examined for any reactions. Approximately two days after the patches are removed, you will return to the office for a second reading of the test results.

Dermatology Residency Program
Associates in Dermatology is home to the University of Louisville Dermatology Residency Program. This program is dedicated to educating future dermatologists and developing leaders in the field. The program has a history spanning over 40 years.
