Education

Vanderbilt Dermatology faculty are committed to teaching state-of-the-art clinical and basic science medicine within a collaborative environment. We provide unparalleled clinical training opportunities, including a highly selective, three-year clinical dermatology residency program with extensive surgical and pathology exposure. Additionally, we offer a procedural dermatology fellowship program specializing in Mohs surgery. Our goal is to train future dermatologists to become exceptional clinicians, scientists, and leaders in the field.

Research

The Department of Dermatology's research programs thrive within the dynamic and rigorous scientific community at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). Significant grant funding and interdisciplinary collaborations empower our investigators to deepen the understanding and improve the care of dermatologic diseases. Our accomplished faculty conduct patient- and data-based research to advance programs in areas such as the immunobiology of skin disease, clinical applications of novel imaging, and the genetic epidemiology of skin cancer.

Phototherapy

Our outpatient facility utilizes ultraviolet light sources or lasers to treat a variety of skin conditions, including psoriasis, acne, certain skin cancers, and other dermatological issues.

PHOTOTHERAPY CLINIC

Melanoma and Pigmented Lesions

This program is dedicated to the care of patients with mole-related issues, including melanoma, dysplastic (atypical) nevi, and congenital nevi. Comprehensive cutaneous photography is used for patient follow-up. Special research initiatives include genetic linkage analysis of dysplastic nevus syndrome and the study of hormonal influences on nevus changes. This long-standing clinic, led by Dr. Darrell Ellis, is an integral part of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.

VICC

Cutaneous Lymphoma

We assist referring physicians in the evaluation and management of cutaneous lymphomas (such as cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, mycosis fungoides, Sezary syndrome, and cutaneous B-cell lymphoma) and related disorders like lymphomatoid papulosis, parapsoriasis, and follicular mucinosis. Patients with suspected cutaneous lymphoma or skin biopsies showing atypical lymphocyte infiltrates also receive evaluation here.

Dermatology at Vanderbilt Health

Clinicians from the VUMC Department of Dermatology see patients at Vanderbilt Health's One Hundred Oaks location. This site offers general dermatology services, as well as specialized treatments including cutaneous lymphoma care, Mohs micrographic surgery, and phototherapy.

Extensions of our general dermatology services are available at Vanderbilt Dermatology locations in Franklin, Belle Meade, and Shelbyville.

Our inpatient dermatology consult service provides care for patients admitted to VUMC and VCH with complex dermatologic conditions.

Vanderbilt Dermatology Nashville VA Medical Center

The Veteran Affairs (VA) Tennessee Valley Health Care system provides high-quality, compassionate dermatologic care to veteran patients. In addition to general and surgical dermatology services, the center offers specialized treatments such as phototherapy, extracorporeal photopheresis, and access to Mohs micrographic surgery. To foster advancements in dermatology knowledge, the VA supports faculty research through career development awards and grants. The VA also contributes to its educational mission by funding six dermatology residents and the Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology fellowship program. The Interim Dermatology Section Chief is Jason Meyer, MD, PhD.

Parking and Information

Free parking for medical appointments is available in designated areas as shown on our One Hundred Oaks Patient/Visitor Parking Map. Covered pull-up access with wheelchair accessibility is located at entrance A on the southeast corner of the building complex. Alternatively, you may park in the general shopping lot on the west side of the building and access medical offices via entrances C, D, or E. Elevators and escalators are available at all entrances.

Shuttles: Free shuttles are available to transport patients and visitors between One Hundred Oaks, Monroe Carell, and Medical Center East.
