Wasatch Dermatology is a practice built on an over 40-year family tradition of compassionate care. Dr. Willard Maughan began his dermatology practice in 1979, and his daughter, Dr. Julie Maughan, has continued this legacy of excellence since 2007. This established tradition underscores the practice's commitment to providing top-tier dermatological services.

What to Expect During Your Visit
We understand that visiting a dermatologist can sometimes be a source of nervousness, especially when you are concerned about a new or changing spot. Wasatch Dermatology strives to make your experience as comfortable and informative as possible.
Your Patient Journey:
- Check-in and Paperwork: You will share your medical history, current medications, and specific concerns. To make your first visit easier, please print and complete all forms in the New Patient Packet prior to your appointment.
- Skin Exam: Depending on the reason for your visit, this may involve a focused examination of a specific area or a full-body skin check. Our providers have a great eye for catching spots you may not even be concerned about.
- Diagnosis and Treatment Plan: Your dermatologist will explain their findings in clear, simple terms and discuss potential treatment options. They are knowledgeable about solutions and great at explaining all the options, including the positive and negative aspects of each.
- Follow-up and Long-term Care: Some conditions improve quickly, while others require ongoing management. We guide you through the entire process, offering support for your well-being.
The exact time an appointment will require depends on your individual needs, condition, concerns, and other factors. While many patients are seen promptly, the length of appointments can vary.

Insurance and Billing
Generally, yes, if you have an insurance plan that requires copays, you can expect them. Unlike primary care, dermatology does not have a "preventive care" exclusion for copays. If your insurance plan requires a referral or prior authorization, you must obtain it from your referring provider to avoid being held responsible for the entire bill.
The charges for professional services will vary visit to visit based on the type of treatment provided. Depending on your particular situation, the doctor may not be able to treat all of your needs in a single visit. New-patient visits require gathering historical information not needed during subsequent appointments, and new patients often haven't had a full skin exam in some time.
