Departure from Divorce Court and Contract Disputes

In March 2006, it was announced that Mablean Ephriam would depart from Divorce Court at the conclusion of the 2005-06 season, her seventh year on the program. Among the key issues was Ephriam's unsuccessful pursuit of a salary increase. Additionally, Ephriam alleged that she was prohibited from altering her hairstyle for an entire television season, as the network expressed concerns about the time required for their hair and makeup team to manage her styles. In a statement addressing these matters, Ephriam commented on the need for acceptance of cultural differences, stating, "When will FOX and the rest of America accept our cultural differences as African Americans and embrace us with all of our different hairstyles, hair textures, hair color."
