Rebecca Short, MD: A Dedicated Dermatologist and Community Advocate

Like many physicians, Rebecca Short, MD, was driven to enter the medical field with a fundamental desire to help people. However, she observes that as increasing pressures are placed on physicians and more constraints are imposed on their time, the human element of medicine and the profound feeling of making a difference in the lives of patients and the communities served are diminishing.

In her role as Community Outreach Chairperson for the Academy this year, Dr. Short has experienced a renewed sense of satisfaction from contributing to the well-being of individuals beyond her immediate patient base. She aspires to serve as the next president to help fellow physicians rediscover the joy in medicine by fostering more outreach programs. These initiatives would enable doctors to dedicate their time, talents, and resources to serving the community.

Under her proposed leadership, there would be a monthly offering for members, and non-council members would be encouraged to participate actively. This inclusive approach aims to foster collaboration and encourage the contribution of ideas for community programs. Such engagement ensures transparency, allowing members to understand how their contributions are utilized. Dr. Short expresses her eagerness to collaborate with members in the years ahead.
